Segovia

A Roman Aqueduct and a Fairy-Tale Alcázar

1 dayIdeal stay₹7,460From / night₹2,880Food / day₹1,070Entry

A Castilian town on a ridge north of Madrid: the Roman aqueduct, nearly 2,000 years old and still standing without mortar, the late-Gothic cathedral and the Alcázar, the castle on a rock prow said to have inspired Disney. The high-speed train from Madrid takes under half an hour to Segovia-Guiomar, 5 km out, with a bus into town; coaches take longer but stop by the aqueduct. Roast suckling pig is the local dish; vegetarians do well on judiones (giant beans, ask for them without meat) and Castilian garlic soup made without ham.
