Keukenhof & the Bulb Fields

Seven Million Bulbs in Bloom, Open Only in Spring

1 dayIdeal stay₹13,850From / night₹3,200Food / day₹2,290Entry

The world's best-known flower garden, at Lisse between Haarlem and Leiden: about seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths planted each year across 32 hectares, with flower pavilions and a windmill looking over the bulb fields round it. It opens for about eight weeks a year, 18 March to 9 May in 2027; the tulips peak around mid-April, and the fields round it (the Bollenstreek) are cut by early May. Entry is by timed online ticket (€21.50 for adults in 2026, more at the gate), and busy days sell out. Keukenhof Express buses run in season from Schiphol, Amsterdam (Europaplein) and Leiden; renting a bike at the gate and riding through the fields is the best way to see them. Out of season the garden is closed and the fields are bare.

Plan around this

Keukenhof Closed

Keukenhof opens only in spring: 18 March to 9 May in 2027. From mid-May to mid-March the garden is shut and the bulb fields round Lisse are bare. Come between late March and early May; the tulips peak around mid-April.

Worth knowing

Tulip Season: Timed Tickets Sell Out

Keukenhof sells timed entry slots online, and weekends, Easter and King's Day sell out. Book as soon as you have dates, arrive at opening (8:00) or after 16:00 to miss the coach groups, and expect the Keukenhof Express buses from Schiphol to queue at midday. The fields flower in turn: daffodils and hyacinths in late March, tulips from about the second week of April, cut by early May.

  • King's Day (Koningsdag) — The national holiday for the King's birthday: the whole country dresses in orange, every street becomes a flea market (the vrijmarkt, from the evening before), and Amsterdam's canals fill with party boats and its centre with up to a million people. Trains into Amsterdam are packed and hotels cost their most; book months ahead, or watch it in a calmer city such as Utrecht, Haarlem or Delft. Museums open, many shops close.
  • Tulip season and Keukenhof — Keukenhof opens for about eight weeks; crocuses and daffodils flower first, the tulips peak around mid-April, and the bulb fields between Haarlem and Leiden are in colour from late March to early May, then cut. The Bloemencorso flower parade drives from Noordwijk to Haarlem through the bulb district on a Saturday in late April. Weekends and Easter are the busiest days: book Keukenhof's timed tickets early.
