Nyerere National Park
Boat Safaris on the Rufiji, Africa's Biggest Park
The northern part of the old Selous Game Reserve, made Africa's largest national park in 2019: lakes and channels of the Rufiji River with hippos, crocodiles, elephants, lions and wild dogs, seen on boat trips and walks as well as game drives, with a fraction of the northern circuit's vehicles. Usually reached by a 45-minute bush flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, or a 5-6 hour drive from Dar; the SGR train to Morogoro makes a quicker overland route to the Matambwe gate. Park fee about US$82.60 a day. Most camps close in April and May.
