The Falls from Goat Island and the Maid of the Mist

1 dayIdeal stay₹12,360From / night₹4,280Food / day₹2,850Entry

The American and Bridal Veil Falls from Niagara Falls State Park, the country's oldest state park: the Maid of the Mist boat into the spray, the Cave of the Winds decks at the foot of the Bridal Veil, Goat Island and the Observation Tower, and the falls lit up at night. The boats run from about late April or May to early November; in winter the falls freeze at the edges and the park is quiet. Crossing the Rainbow Bridge to the Canadian side, with its view of the Horseshoe Falls, needs a Canadian visa on an Indian passport. Plenty of Indian restaurants and motels on the US side.

Maid of the Mist Doesn't Sail in Winter

The Maid of the Mist runs from about late April or May to early November, and the Cave of the Winds decks are partly dismantled in winter. The falls themselves, half-frozen, stay open and are lit at night.

  • New England autumn colours — The maples turn from late September in northern New England to mid-October near Boston and the Hudson Valley, later in New York City. Weekend rooms in the countryside sell out; drive on weekdays if you can.
