Worth knowing
Off Season: Many Hotels and Boats Closed
From November to March many hotels, beach clubs, restaurants and daily boat trips close, the Greek-island ferries stop or run rarely, and the sea is too cold for most swimmers. The towns stay open and quiet; choose a hotel that says it is open in winter, or stay in Antalya or Alanya, which keep going all year.
Worth knowing
Bayram Holiday: Buses and Flights Sell Out
Ramazan Bayramı (about 9-12 March 2027) and Kurban Bayramı (about 16-19 May 2027, often stretched to nine days off) send millions of Turks travelling. Intercity buses and domestic flights sell out and prices jump, coastal hotels fill, and some museums close on the first morning. Book transport and rooms early, and avoid travelling on the first and last days of the holiday.
What’s on in March
Timing a trip around these changes what you pay and what you can book.
Ramadan (Ramazan)dates shift yearly
The fasting month, expected from about 8 February to 9 March 2027. Life for visitors carries on: restaurants, cafes and sights stay open, and alcohol is still sold in tourist areas. In conservative cities (Konya, Mardin) eat discreetly in daylight. At sunset the iftar meal fills restaurants and Sultanahmet's square becomes a night market; drummers wake the neighbourhoods before dawn.
Ramazan Bayramı (Eid al-Fitr)dates shift yearly
The holiday ending Ramadan (expected about 9-12 March 2027). Millions of Turks travel home: intercity buses and domestic flights sell out and prices jump, so book a few weeks ahead. Some museums close on the first morning; Istanbul's bridges and public transport are often free.

Visa needed before you fly for up to 30 days, about ₹4,300
- If you hold a valid US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or residence permit, apply online for the Turkish e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr (single entry, up to 30 days, about US$44.5: US$43 plus a US$1.5 processing fee); use only the official site. Otherwise apply for a sticker tourist visa through the Turkish consulate's visa centre (VFS Global) at least 3-4 weeks before you fly.
- For the e-Visa, check on evisa.gov.tr that your airline and route qualify (it is for arrival by air) and print the e-Visa; your US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa must still be valid on the day you land.
- For the sticker visa, book a VFS appointment and bring the form, photos, 3-6 months of bank statements, ITRs, a cover letter, confirmed return flights and hotel bookings; processing takes about 15 working days.
- At Istanbul immigration, show your passport with the visa (or the printed e-Visa) and, if asked, your return ticket, hotel bookings and funds.
Carry: Passport valid at least 60 days beyond your stay (6 months is the safe rule), with a blank page; The e-Visa printout, or the sticker visa in your passport; For the e-Visa: your valid US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or residence permit (the physical one); Confirmed return flight within the visa's 30 days; Hotel bookings for the whole stay; Proof of funds: about US$50 a day (bank statement or forex card).
Only Indians who already hold a US, UK, Irish or Schengen visa or residence permit can use the e-Visa; everyone else needs a sticker visa from the Turkish mission's visa centre, so start a month ahead. Fees and conditions were taken from consular notes and travel guides, not the live e-Visa site: confirm on evisa.gov.tr before paying.
Checked 2026-10; confirm with the embassy before you fly.
