Typhoon Risk
Typhoons can reach Hong Kong from May to November, less often than in high summer. If the No. 8 signal goes up, ferries, theme parks and most sights close until it comes down: keep plans flexible and check the Hong Kong Observatory's app.

May Day Holiday Crowds
Mainland China's May Day holiday, in the first days of May, brings a shorter rush of visitors: expect queues at the cable car, the Peak Tram and the theme parks, and book tickets ahead.
What’s on in May
Timing a trip around these changes what you pay and what you can book.
Buddha's Birthdaydates shift yearly
A public holiday. Po Lin Monastery below the Big Buddha on Lantau holds the ceremony of bathing the Buddha, and Chi Lin Nunnery and the other monasteries are busy with worshippers; expect long queues for the cable car.
Tuen Ng (Dragon Boat Festival)dates shift yearly
Dragon boat races at Stanley Main Beach (the biggest, with crowds and stalls on the sand), Aberdeen and many other harbours, and in Tai O on Lantau a traditional water parade of the fishing community's gods. Rice dumplings wrapped in leaves are eaten everywhere.

Entry rules
No visa needed for up to 14 days
- Before you fly, register online for the free Pre-arrival Registration (PAR) for Indian nationals on the Hong Kong Immigration Department website (immd.gov.hk). It must succeed before you travel; do it as soon as you book, so there is time to apply for a visa if it does not.
- Print the PAR notification slip on blank white A4 paper and sign it. Airlines ask for it at check-in and will not board you without it; show it again at Hong Kong immigration. One registration is valid for six months.
- You may stay up to 14 days a visit. For a longer stay, or if your registration fails, you need a visa from the Immigration Department before you travel.
Carry: Passport valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive; Signed PAR notification slip, printed on A4 paper; Confirmed return or onward ticket within 14 days; Hotel bookings for the stay; Proof of funds (bank statement or cards), if the officer asks.
The registration is free: sites that charge for it are not the Immigration Department. It covers Hong Kong only: Macau and mainland China have their own entry rules, so check them before a side trip.
Checked 2026-10; confirm with the embassy before you fly.
