About this circuit

Bali in eight days: Ubud for the Tegallalang terraces, the Monkey Forest and the water temples; Seminyak for beach clubs, villas and sunset dinners; Uluwatu for the cliff temple and its Kecak fire dance; then by bus and fast boat through Sanur to Nusa Penida for Kelingking, Broken Beach and manta rays.

Why it matters

Ubud is the hill town most people picture as Bali, Uluwatu's temple stands on a 70 m cliff, and Nusa Penida is the big, wild island 45 minutes by fast boat from Sanur. Indian food is easy: Mumbai Station in Ubud is pure vegetarian, and Queen's Tandoor in Seminyak has a Jain section.

Stop by stop

How the 8 days split across the 4 stops, and what each one costs on the ground for two.

1.UbudDay 1–3 · 3 days here

The hill town most people picture as Bali: the Tegallalang rice terraces, the Sacred Monkey Forest, the royal palace and its nightly dances, water temples like Tirta Empul, yoga retreats, swings over the jungle and the waterfalls around. Inland, so no beach, and the traffic in town is slow. The easiest place in Bali for Indian and vegetarian food: Queens of India opposite the palace, pure-vegetarian Mumbai Station for dosas, Sitara with Jain dishes on request.

Don't miss: Tegallalang rice terraces at sunrise · Sacred Monkey Forest.

How long: 3 days, which is the recommended stay.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), 37 km

3 days for two from ₹14,238 · ₹36,333 mid-range — stay, food, local travel and entry; the journey here is extra

2.SeminyakDay 4 · 1 day here

The smarter end of the south-west coast: beach clubs such as Potato Head and Ku De Ta, boutique shopping on Jalan Kayu Aya, villa stays with private pools and a long sunset beach. Popular with Indian honeymooners for its villas and restaurants. Queen's Tandoor is one of Bali's oldest Indian restaurants, with a Jain section.

Don't miss: Sunset at a Seminyak beach club · Private pool villa stay.

How long: 1 day here; on its own Seminyak is worth 2 — add a day if you can.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), 10 km

1 day for two from ₹3,121 · ₹7,452 mid-range — stay, food, local travel and entry; the journey here is extra

3.UluwatuDay 5–6 · 2 days here

The limestone tip of the Bukit peninsula: the Uluwatu temple on a 70 m cliff with its sunset Kecak fire dance, cliff-backed coves such as Padang Padang, Bingin and Melasti, world-class surf and the island's most dramatic resorts. Beaches are down long staircases. Mind the temple's macaques, which snatch glasses and phones.

Don't miss: Uluwatu temple on the cliff · Kecak fire dance at sunset.

How long: 2 days, which is the recommended stay.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), 20 km

2 days for two from ₹10,508 · ₹25,747 mid-range — stay, food, local travel and entry; the journey here is extra

4.Nusa PenidaDay 7–8 · 2 days here

The big, wild island 45 minutes by fast boat from Sanur: the T-rex cliff at Kelingking, Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong, Diamond Beach's carved staircase, and snorkelling with manta rays. Roads are rough and steep, so a day tour barely touches it; a night or two lets you see the east and west coasts. Pay the island levy on arrival.

Don't miss: Kelingking T-rex cliff · Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong.

How long: 2 days, which is the recommended stay.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), 35 km

2 days for two from ₹8,803 · ₹20,812 mid-range — stay, food, local travel and entry; the journey here is extra

What it costs

from ₹62,627 a person

The whole 8-day trip as the planner prices it in April, for two sharing at budget stays: flights from India and back, travel between the stops, stays, food, getting around, entry fees and the planner's buffer.

The visa for an Indian passport, about ₹2,650 a person, is on top.

When to go

JFMAMJJASOND
April to October is the dry season; from December to February rough seas can stop the fast boats to the Nusa islands, and on Nyepi (8 March 2027) all of Bali, airport included, shuts for 24 hours

Entry rules

Visa on arrival for up to 30 days, about ₹2,650

Before you fly, buy the e-VOA (visa on arrival) at evisa.imigrasi.go.id: IDR 500,000, about ₹2,700, valid for 30 days. You can also pay at the visa-on-arrival counter in Bali or Jakarta, but the queue is long.

Checked 2026-10; confirm with the embassy before you fly.

Good to know

  • ·Pay the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150,000 a person) at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you land, and buy the e-VOA at evisa.imigrasi.go.id to skip the queue on arrival
  • ·On Penida hire a car with a driver rather than a scooter: the roads are steep, narrow and broken
  • ·Book Uluwatu's Kecak dance for sunset and arrive an hour early; the temple's macaques snatch glasses and phones
  • ·Grab and Gojek are the cheapest way round south Bali; in parts of Ubud local drivers may not let them pick up, so walk a block out
  • ·July and August are the busiest months: villas cost 30-50% more and the traffic in the south is at its worst
