About this circuit
Three capitals of South-East Asia: four days in Bangkok for the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Chinatown's street food; a flight of about two and a half hours to Singapore for Gardens by the Bay, the SkyPark and the free light shows on Marina Bay; the coach over the Causeway to Kuala Lumpur for the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves and the night food street of Jalan Alor; and home from Kuala Lumpur.
Why it matters
Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur are the arrival cities for almost every flight from India, and Indian food is easy in both: pure-vegetarian restaurants in Sukhumvit Soi 11 and Pahurat, and banana-leaf rice in Kuala Lumpur's Brickfields. Batu Caves' 272 rainbow steps climb to a Hindu cave temple, and round Marina Bay the hawker centres and Lau Pa Sat's satay street keep Singapore's meals affordable.
Stop by stop
How the 9 days split across the 3 stops, and what each one costs on the ground for two.
Thailand's capital and the arrival city for almost every flight from India. The Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha, the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and Wat Arun across the Chao Phraya sit within a boat ride of each other; Chinatown, rooftop bars, malls and the weekend market at Chatuchak fill the rest. Indian food is easy: Sukhumvit Soi 11 and Pahurat (Little India) have pure-vegetarian South and North Indian restaurants.
Don't miss: Grand Palace & Emerald Buddha · Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho.
How long: 4 days, a day more than the usual 3, which leaves room for the journey in.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), 30 km
4 days for two from ₹25,973 · ₹61,108 mid-range — stay, food, local travel and entry; the journey here is extra
The postcard Singapore round the bay: Gardens by the Bay's Supertrees and the cooled Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, Marina Bay Sands and its SkyPark, the Merlion, the Esplanade, and the free evening light shows at the Supertree Grove and on the bay. The Singapore River runs back from here past Boat Quay and Clarke Quay to the old colonial district, with the National Gallery and the Padang. Central, walkable, and on four MRT lines, so it is the easiest base for a first visit, and the dearest. Lau Pa Sat's satay street and the hawker centres of the financial district keep meals affordable.
Don't miss: Supertree Grove and the OCBC Skyway · Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
How long: 2 days, which is the recommended stay.
Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), 20 km

Malaysia's capital and the arrival city for almost every flight from India. The Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC park, the 272 rainbow steps up to the Hindu cave temple at Batu Caves, Merdeka Square and the old Moorish railway buildings, Chinatown's Petaling Street and the night food street of Jalan Alor. Indian food is everywhere: Brickfields (Little India) by KL Sentral has pure-vegetarian South Indian restaurants and banana-leaf rice, and mamak stalls serve roti canai round the clock.
Don't miss: Petronas Twin Towers skybridge · Batu Caves and its 272 rainbow steps.
How long: 3 days, which is the recommended stay.

What it costs
from ₹88,808 a person
The whole 9-day trip as the planner prices it in December, for two sharing at budget stays: flights from India and back, travel between the stops and across the borders, stays, food, getting around, entry fees and the planner's buffer.
The visa for an Indian passport, about ₹3,100 a person, is on top.
When to go
JFMAMJJASOND
December to February suits the route, though Singapore has heavy afternoon showers until January (its driest months are February to April); from about June to October smoke from fires in Sumatra and Borneo can bring haze to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore
Entry rules: three visas
Thailand
No visa needed for up to 30 days
Within 72 hours before landing, fill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) at tdac.immigration.go.th. It is free; save the QR code it gives you. Do one card per traveller, children included.
E-visa before you fly for up to 30 days, about ₹3,100
Apply for the Singapore e-Visa through an Authorised Visa Agent listed by the Singapore mission for your state (you cannot apply yourself): visa fee ₹2,100 plus the agent's fixed ₹1,000 service charge, about ₹3,100. Allow 3-5 working days; apply at least two weeks before you fly.
In the 3 days before you land, fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) at imigresen-online.imi.gov.my. It is free (sites that charge are not official); keep the confirmation email. One card per traveller, children included.
·Thailand is visa-free for Indians for up to 30 days, and Malaysia for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026 (no extension had been announced by late October 2026); Singapore needs an e-visa, applied for only through an Authorised Visa Agent at least two weeks ahead
·Fill in each country's free arrival card before you land: Thailand's TDAC within 72 hours, the SG Arrival Card and the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card within 3 days; sites that charge are not official
·Bangkok to Singapore is a flight of about 2 h 30 (Scoot, AirAsia from Don Mueang, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines); Singapore to Kuala Lumpur is the express coach over the Causeway, 5-7 hours, and longer when the border jams at peak times and holidays
·The Grand Palace and Wat Pho need shoulders and knees covered; anyone outside saying the palace is "closed today" is starting the gem-shop scam
·Chinese New Year (6 February 2027) closes many hawker stalls and small shops for a few days in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and on Thaipusam, in late January or early February, over a million people go to Batu Caves: see them another day
