Cliff-Top Drive to the Twelve Apostles
The coast road west of Melbourne, built by returned soldiers after the First World War: surf beaches at Torquay, Lorne and Apollo Bay, koalas in the manna gums at Kennett River, the Otway rainforest, and the limestone stacks of the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge beyond. December to February is bushfire season. On days of extreme or catastrophic fire danger, national parks and walking tracks close and total fire bans apply. Check the state fire service app (Fires Near Me in NSW, VicEmergency, Alert SA, Emergency WA) each morning, keep plans flexible, and leave early if told to.
