The Valley of 72 Waterfalls and Its Car-Free Villages
A sheer-walled glacial valley 20 minutes from Interlaken, with Staubbach Falls dropping beside Lauterbrunnen village and the Trümmelbach Falls thundering inside the mountain. Wengen, on a shelf above, and Mürren, across the valley, are car-free: there is no road to either, only the rack railway from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen (about 15 minutes) and the cableway and train to Mürren, so drivers park in Lauterbrunnen. Wengen is on the line to Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch; Mürren leads to the Schilthorn and its revolving Piz Gloria restaurant.

Ski Season Prices
Winter is high season in the ski resorts: rooms cost most, and are hardest to find, from Christmas to New Year and in the February school holidays, when many hotels sell only week-long stays. Ski passes are priced dynamically and are dearest on those dates too. January (outside the holidays) and March are better value.
Worth knowing
Between Seasons: Hotels and Lifts Closed
May and November fall between the summer and ski seasons: many hotels, restaurants and mountain lifts close for weeks of maintenance, and walking trails above the villages can still be under snow in May. Check that the lifts you want are running before you book.

Jungfraujoch Weather
Jungfraujoch is at 3,454 m: it can be in cloud with no view while the valley is sunny, and it is below freezing even in August. Check the webcams on jungfrau.ch the morning you go (the return ticket from Interlaken is CHF 261 in the May-October peak), go early, take warm clothes and sunglasses, and walk slowly at the top; the thin air makes some people dizzy.

Jungfraujoch Seat Reservation
From May to October a seat reservation on the Jungfraujoch trains is compulsory (CHF 10 in 2026), on top of the ticket and the Swiss Travel Pass. Morning trains sell out first in July and August.

Trümmelbach Falls Closed in Winter
The Trümmelbach Falls inside the mountain open only from about April to early November. Staubbach Falls can be seen all year, frozen in a cold winter.

Summer Crowds
May and June bring the Indian summer-holiday tours, July and August the European summer: queues at the Jungfraujoch, Titlis and Gornergrat stations, full trains and the year's highest room prices. Go up on the first train, and book rooms 2-3 months ahead.
- Lauberhorn ski races — Men's World Cup downhill and slalom above Wengen in mid-January, with the longest downhill course on the circuit; Wengen's rooms and trains fill for the race weekend.
