The Bone Chapel and a Silver Town's Cathedral

1 dayIdeal stay₹5,720From / night₹1,850Food / day₹1,580Entry

A medieval silver-mining town an hour east of Prague, on UNESCO's list for its old centre and two cathedrals: Gothic St Barbara's, built by the miners' guilds, and the Cathedral of the Assumption at Sedlec. Beside it the Sedlec Ossuary is decorated with the bones of tens of thousands of people, chandelier and coat of arms included; it is a consecrated chapel, so keep voices down. Trains from Prague stop at Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží in Sedlec, a short walk from the ossuary, and a local train or bus goes on to the old town. Most visit on a day trip from Prague.

Summer Crowds

June to August brings the most visitors: Charles Bridge and Prague Castle are crowded from mid-morning, and coach groups fill Český Krumlov and the Sedlec Ossuary at midday. Start early, and stay overnight in Český Krumlov to see it quiet.
