Sunny University Town at the Edge of the Black Forest
1 dayIdeal stay₹9,050From / night₹2,880Food / day₹530Entry
A lively university town in the far south-west, one of Germany's sunniest: the red sandstone Minster with its 116 m tower over a daily market, the little water channels (Bächle) along the streets, the Schlossberg view, and the eco-district of Vauban. The gateway to the southern Black Forest (Titisee is 40 minutes by train), with Basel 40-45 minutes away and Colmar and Strasbourg in France an easy day out. Vegetarian-friendly, with a young crowd.

When to go
Best time: April – October, December
- Christmas markets across Germany — From late November to about 23 December almost every town holds a Christmas market: Rothenburg's Reiterlesmarkt in its medieval square, Berlin's many markets (Gendarmenmarkt, Charlottenburg Palace), Lübeck's and Hamburg's by their town halls, Stuttgart's large market by the old castle. Opening days vary by town and most close on or before Christmas Eve: check before you plan a December trip around one.
