When to go
Best time: April – December
Worth knowing
Komodo Park: Daily Visitor Cap
Since 1 April 2026 Komodo National Park admits about 1,000 visitors a day across Padar, Rinca, Komodo and the dive sites, booked in advance through the park's SiOra system (tour operators do it for you). There are no walk-in tickets, so book your boat and park day before you fly, especially for July to September and December. Park entry is about IDR 150,000 on weekdays plus a IDR 100,000 conservation fee; more on Sundays and holidays.
Heads up
Komodo Rainy Season
January and February bring the heaviest rain and swell to Komodo, and speedboat days and liveaboard routes can be changed or cancelled. Keep a spare day in Labuan Bajo before the flight back.
Heads up
Flores Volcano Ash and Flights
Eruptions of Lewotobi Laki-laki in east Flores cancelled dozens of Bali and Labuan Bajo flights in November 2024 and June-July 2025. No eruption was reported in 2026 up to October, but buy travel insurance that covers volcanic ash and keep a day spare.
- Christmas and New Year peak — Bali's dearest fortnight: villas and resorts set minimum stays and gala dinners on 24 and 31 December, and Indian, Australian and Indonesian holidays overlap. Book rooms and the Gili and Komodo boats by October, and expect rain: it is the wet season.
