Rinjani Crater Rim Treks and Jungle Waterfalls
The village on Mount Rinjani's northern slope, start of the treks to the crater rim (2,641 m) above the Segara Anak lake: two days and one night to the rim and back, three to four with the lake or the 3,726 m summit. Below the village, Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls make an easy half day. Treks go only with a licensed guide and porters, and the national park closes its trails every year from 1 January to about the end of March for the rains.

Mount Rinjani Trails Closed
⚠️ Mount Rinjani National Park closes all trekking trails every year in the peak rains, from 1 January to about the end of March (2026: reopened 1 April). No crater-rim or summit trek is possible; the Senaru waterfalls stay open.

Rinjani Shoulder Season
The trails reopen in April and stay open to December, but the first and last weeks can be wet and slippery, and the park can close routes at short notice in bad weather. Trek only with a licensed guide; the foreign fee is IDR 250,000.
- Idul Fitri (Lebaran) homecoming — The end of Ramadan, when tens of millions travel home (mudik). Trains, flights and the Java–Bali and Bali–Lombok ferries sell out a month ahead and fares hit the legal cap; Jakarta empties and some restaurants close. In 2027 it falls two days after Nyepi, so the second week of March is the hardest of the year to travel in Indonesia. During Ramadan before it, Lombok and Java restaurants may be screened off by day.
