Harbour Town under kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and MONA
Tasmania's small, handsome capital on the Derwent: sandstone warehouses at Salamanca Place and its Saturday market, the view from the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, MONA (the Museum of Old and New Art) by fast ferry, and day trips to the Port Arthur convict site and Bruny Island. Cool even in summer and cold in winter; there are no passenger trains in Tasmania, so you fly in or come by the Spirit of Tasmania ferry and drive.

Heads up
Hobart in Winter
Cold, short days (highs about 12 °C), with snow on kunanyi / Mount Wellington, whose summit road can close. Port Arthur and the city's sights are open, and rooms are cheaper.
