Worth knowing
Land Borders Closed: Arrive and Leave by Air
Azerbaijan's land borders have been closed to travellers since 2020. Since May 2026 the train from Tbilisi runs again, but only Azerbaijani citizens and visa-free passports may enter on it, so anyone on an e-visa (Indians included) arrives by air at Baku; foreigners may leave by land. The border with Armenia is closed, and the US (Level 3, "Reconsider travel") and UK advise against the border areas with Armenia and Iran. A Georgia–Azerbaijan combination trip means flying one way.
Worth knowing
Baku Grand Prix: Hotel Prices Spike
The Formula One race runs on the streets round the Old City and the Boulevard, usually in mid-to-late September. For about a week roads close and parts of the centre are fenced off, and on the race weekend Baku hotels can cost two to three times more and sell out. Check the race date before you book, and avoid that week unless you are going to the race.
