A village where the Danube swings south between wooded hills, the view that gives the Danube Bend its name. A 13th-century citadel crowns the hill above it, reached by a steep path from the village (about an hour up) or by road; below are the excavated Renaissance Royal Palace of King Matthias and the hexagonal Solomon's Tower. Trains run on the opposite bank to Nagymaros-Visegrád station, linked by a small ferry, and buses come along the river from Budapest and Szentendre. In July the palace hosts the medieval Palace Games; in summer boats and hydrofoils call from Budapest.

No Danube Boats Out of Season
Mahart's excursion boats and hydrofoils from Budapest run about May to September only (some lines in July and August only, others mostly at weekends). Out of season go by train, the HÉV or Volánbusz coaches, which run all year.
- Visegrád Palace Games — A medieval festival at the Royal Palace on a July weekend: knights' tournaments, archery, music and a costumed procession. Busy; book a room ahead or come for the day.
