Zion National Park

The Narrows, Angels Landing and Red-Walled Canyons

2 daysIdeal stay₹17,120From / night₹4,760Food / day₹11,410Entry

Utah's most visited park: a deep canyon of red and cream cliffs cut by the Virgin River. A free shuttle runs up the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive for most of the year (private cars are barred while it runs), to the Emerald Pools, the Riverside Walk and the Narrows, waded in the river (closed after rain and at high flow: flash floods kill). Angels Landing's chained ridge needs a permit from a lottery. Springdale at the gate has all the rooms. Non-US residents pay the US$100 surcharge from 2026. Two and three-quarter hours from Las Vegas.

When to go

Best time: April – June, September – October

Worth knowing

Extreme Desert Heat

⚠️ Summer days pass 40 °C in Las Vegas and the desert below the rims (the Grand Canyon's floor reaches 45 °C). Hike only at dawn, carry at least 4 litres of water a person, never leave anyone in a parked car, and don't try the canyon trails to the river in the heat: rangers rescue hikers every summer.

Worth knowing

Monsoon Flash Floods in the Slot Canyons

⚠️ July to September brings afternoon monsoon storms: flash floods race through slot canyons and the Zion Narrows even when the sky above is clear, and have killed visitors. The Narrows closes at high flow and Antelope Canyon tours stop when rain threatens; check the flash-flood forecast at the visitor centre the morning you go.

Heads up

Angels Landing Needs a Permit

The chained final ridge of Angels Landing needs a permit from a seasonal lottery (applications months ahead) or a day-before lottery on recreation.gov. Scout Lookout, below it, needs none.
